We are located in the heart of the historic Old Towne District in Orange, CA between the Plaza and Chapman University. In 1950, Wallace C. “Wally, Zirkle purchased the site at 177 N. Glassell to open “Wally’s Market”, his ‘pride and joy’ until 1961 when he went to work for the US Postal Service as a letter carrier for the next 27 years. Wally came to the City of Orange in 1944 and owned the Firestone Tire Store and the Music Box Store located in the southeast corner of the Plaza in Old Towne. The Feature Film That Thing You Do used the building as background. Tom Hanks directed the film, which is set in 1960’s Pennsylvania. It stars Tom Everett Scott, Liv Tyler, Johnathan Schaech, Steve Zahn, Ethan Embry, and Tom Hanks. What is a Gringer? A Submarine sandwich, also known as a Hoagie, Hero, or Grinder, is a type of deli sandwich that originated in several different Italian American communities in the Northeastern United States from the late 19th to mid 20th centuries. These sandwiches are known by various names depending on where you live in this country. Some of those names include: Submarine, Heros, Hoagie, Grinder, Po’ Boy, Rocket, Torpedo, Dagwood, Hero, Zepplin, and Italian Sandwich. The term “Grinder” was Italian American slang for a dock worker.

This place is off the hook, You guys should be on Diners, Drive ins and Dives! call them the world needs to know where your at.. The subs are huge and the old sodas WOW!!! Love coming here.. Tom.
